Atlanta is so much more than just intown Atlanta–there are so many fantastic suburbs and neighborhoods that make up the Greater Metro Area and that all have their unique character and charm. Alpharetta is one of Atlanta Eats’ favorite dining destinations, and the Avalon in particular is a favorite of ours to peruse around for eats that are just as great as their shopping!
Antico Pizza
It’s an Atlanta legend, and it’s only fitting that they’ve expanded in recent years to outposts at the Battery and in Alpharetta as well. A favorite among locals, Antico has also been frequented by celebrities from Drew Barrymore to Owen Wilson to Ryan Reynolds to Selena Gomez to Jon Hamm.
Barleygarden Kitchen
Chef Craig’s passion in life is beer, and they’ve got dozens on tap. But sheesh, the food here is also no joke. Their Butcher’s Bun sandwich with shaved ribeye, fried onions, and gruyere cheese is everything you could want in a sandwich, and their gruyere and mushroom burger is a favorite. We also love the open air deck/patio vibes here!
Biltong Bar
Biltong Bar might just be the city’s best co*cktail bar (and they were actually named in the top 21 in the whole country by Thrillist!). With locations in Buckhead, Ponce City Market, and now, the Avalon, they’ve really proved that what they’re doing is totally resonating with ATLiens all over. Want something with a whole lot of kick? Try the “Unf*ck Your Day” co*cktail, with rye brandy, tonic wine, passion fruit, lime, mint, and absinthe. And for something that’s definitely a step up from your typical bar food, try their ostrich sliders and their biltong, or South African beef jerky.
Bocado Burger
A favorite of our host, Steak Shapiro, Bocado has been delivering on consistently solid and delicious food for years. And now they’re bringing their mouthwatering burgers to Alpharetta! Chow down on their BLT burger or for something a little more Southern, get the Down South with pimento cheese, poblano pepper, bacon, fried green tomatoes and spicy mayo!

Branch & Barrel
Everything Branch & Barrel does is a total hit. Their crispy salt and vinegar brussel sprouts is a total winner and the ancho grilled grouper sandwich is a crowd-pleaser every time. They also have outdoor seating for al fresco dining when the weather is nice!
Cafe Intermezzo
If you want to take a trip to Paris without taking a trip to Paris, then Cafe Intermezzo is just the ticket. Sip on a rich cup of coffee at one of their bistro style tables and bask in the ambiance and moody lighting throughout. Dig into their French bistro style eats or tuck into their cakes, tarts, and espresso-based drinks.
Farm to Ladle
Everything Chef Geoff Melkonian creates at Farm to Ladle is fresh, fast, and delicious. It’s healthy fare sourced locally, and the perfect stuff to power up any shopping trip at the Avalon.
Goldberg’s Fine Foods
Goldberg’s has been serving up Jewish deli excellence since the 70s, with all the classics from pastrami to lox to reubens. Beloved by many, they’ve now successfully expanded to a dozen or so locations around Metro Atlanta as well as expanded their menu to encompass Southern and all kinds of great American eats. Pop into this affordable, family-friendly, breakfast all-day joint and there will be a little something for everyone.
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams
The heavenly smell of the waffle cones is ridiculously tempting every time you walk past a Jeni’s. The lines are always long, but move pretty speedily so don’t be deterred. There are
Marlow’s Tavern
There’s not a lot of better feelings than sliding into the booth at a cozy place like Marlow’s and ordering up some rich tavern food. The prime rib French dip is fantastic every time or dig into their fish tacos and burgers. It’s a casual sort of place that just feels like your neighborhood go-to.
Rumi’s Kitchen
Persian food at its best! Rumi’s Kitchen has been delighting ATL for years with their juicy kabobs and flavorful saffron infused dips and spreads. For those who haven’t had the pleasure of trying Persian food before, let us give you the lowdown. For meat lovers, you’ll delight in their kabos. For rich, savory, melt-in-your-mouth flavor, try their Kashk Badenjoon and Mirza Ghasemi. And for a bit of Persian/French fusion, try the Darjeeling Creme Brulee!
South City Kitchen Avalon
There’s a lot of great places for Southern food around Metro Atlanta, but South City Kitchen has been doing it since the 90s and they’ve been killing it ever since. It’s Southern classics with an upscale and sophisticated twist. The fried chicken is always perfect, and the biscuits melt in your mouth. We especially love them for brunch!
Superica
Finally, we have a fantastic true Tex-Mex place in Greater Metro Atlanta. Superica, from Chef Ford Fry, pulls in the flavors and spices from Fry’s hometown of Houston. The chorizo queso fundido is phenomenal every time and the green verde chicken enchiladas truly authentic. But perhaps unlike what you think of when you think “Tex-Mex,” the atmosphere is a little more elevated and upscale yet still totally approachable. There’s also plentiful outdoor seating for you to enjoy this spring!
Ted’s Montana Grill
Bison is the move! If you’ve never had this delectable meat, let us tell you it’s phenomenal and it’s highly likely that it’s Ted’s that does it best in Metro Atlanta. Started by Atlanta legend Ted Turner after he got into bison ranching, Ted’s Montana Grill features bison and other classic American food. The 50/50 beef/bison blend is where it’s at, for a little bit of the lean meat from the bison and a little bit of fat from the beef. It’s excellent fresh and comforting food at an affordable price!
